Frequently Asked questions
What is the difference between a nutritionist and a Registered Dietitian?
Erin Burch Nutrition, PLLC is owned and operated by a Registered Dietitian. Many other nutrition programs are provided by “nutritionists.” The term “nutritionist” is not legally regulated and therefore can be used by anyone regardless of expertise or education level. For additional information on what a Registered Dietitian is, please visit the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics website.
The Institute of Medicine identifies registered dietitians as qualified professionals for nutrition therapy. According to IOM, “the registered dietitian is currently the single identifiable group of health-care professionals with standardized education, clinical training, continuing education and national credentialing requirements necessary to be directly reimbursed as a provider of nutrition therapy.”
Do you take insurance?
YES!! We currently are providers for Independent Health, and BCBS. You may have 4 visits per year or unlimited visits up to your maximum medical nutrition therapy or prevention and wellness benefit limit. A referral from your doctor may be needed, however, most health insurance plans do not require a referral when you see a provider who is “In-Network”.
Why should I pay for something that is not covered by my insurance?
The decision to make a change has to be your own. There is a reason you have decided to look at this website; hopefully, it is because you would like to improve your health and quality of life. The money you invest in your health now may help you avoid future medical expenses. Think of nutrition therapy as an investment in yourself – it will pay dividends!
